Paul was born and raised in San Francisco, California. His summers were spent in Lake Tahoe at the family property on the Truckee River. His introduction to Squaw Valley and the surrounding backcountry was through working with his father as an outfitter, supplying horses and supplies to locals and visitors on fishing and hunting expeditions into the Sierra (the Horse Trails at SV were created by his father and Bud Jones). His introduction to skiing came during High School and College, eventually working for Bill Klein’s Ski Shops in San Francisco and Sugar Bowl, followed by Jack Starrett’s Village Store in Squaw Valley, climbing expeditions with Hans Gmoser (founder of CMH) in Canada, roaming the Alps and traveling overland to Nepal, ostensibly to meet SV ski-patroller Kim Schmitz for a trip to the Everest and Annapurna basecamps. Upon his return he entered the Graduate Program at UCLA’s Theatre Arts Department where he honed his skills as a Sound Recordist, Cameraman, Director and Producer of numerous television, commercial and marketing films for over 30 years. Today, Paul commutes between Marina Del Rey and his family’s Truckee River home, which he shares with his wife (Kristina), twin children (Jennifer & Nick) and four grandchildren.
